LPG Price Alert : Starting May 1, 2025, the prices of LPG cylinders have been revised by oil marketing companies across India. While there’s good news for commercial consumers, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged, offering no relief for households.
Commercial LPG Prices Reduced
The price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by ₹14.50, which is good news for small businesses, restaurants, and hotels.
This reduction comes as part of the monthly price revision and brings some relief to businesses struggling with high operating costs.
Here are the new commercial LPG cylinder rates in major cities:
- Delhi: ₹1,747.50
- Mumbai: ₹1,699.00
- Kolkata: ₹1,851.50
- Chennai: ₹1,906.00
The cut is attributed to a fall in global LPG prices, allowing oil companies to pass on some benefits to commercial consumers. These consumers often use multiple cylinders daily and will likely feel a positive impact from the price drop.
No Change in Domestic Cylinder Prices
On the other hand, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain the same as last month. The cost of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder stands at:
- Delhi: ₹853.00
- Mumbai: ₹852.50
- Kolkata: ₹879.00
- Chennai: ₹868.50
In April 2025, the government increased the domestic LPG price by ₹50, which still holds. Despite falling international prices, no further relief has been provided to common households this month.
Ujjwala Yojana Offers Some Relief
Beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) continue to get a domestic gas cylinder at a subsidized rate of ₹553 for 14.2 kg. This scheme is targeted at low-income families to ensure they have access to clean cooking fuel at affordable rates.
However, the benefit does not extend to the general public, who still have to bear the brunt of the April price hike.
Why the Price Change?
LPG cylinder prices in India are affected by several factors, including:
- International crude oil prices
- Exchange rates
- Transport and bottling costs
- Government taxes and subsidies
This month, commercial cylinder rates have dropped because international LPG prices fell, but the government has decided to keep domestic prices the same for now.
Prices to Be Reviewed Every Fortnight
In a new development, the government has announced that LPG prices will now be reviewed every 15 days. This means that both domestic and commercial consumers might see more frequent price changes going forward, depending on the global oil market trends.
Conclusion
May 2025 brings much-needed relief for commercial LPG users, but no price drop for domestic users. With prices still high for regular households, many are hoping that the next revision will bring some relief. Until then, only Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries continue to enjoy affordable gas prices.
